Dumglow

Although the weather forecast had improved for Ben Ledi it did look like it would be in the clouds, so yet again a few plan B’s (to the east) were considered before settling on the modest Dumglow in the Creish Hills.

A small team of 5 Marauders met next to the small layby at NT093969 – Crawford, Sheila, Stuart, Graham and Jan.

We delayed our start slightly to allow the two professional?! dog walkers to manage their joint pack of about a dozen dogs clear of our planned route. (all running free!)

A gentle path soon took us up to the shapely peak of Dummiefarline which was our first iron age fort of the day.

Already there were excellent views of Loch Leven and the Lomond Hills.

Leaving Dummiefarline, we headed south west to drop though a gap between two of The Inneans.

Although the path was a bit boggy it was easy to skip around the worst of it with plenty of autumn colours on the grass and trees.

A small dry section through the woods and we were soon out on the hiilside with views over to Knockhill. From here it was only a short distance to reach the top of Dumglow at 379m.

An excellent viewpoint and the second fort.

And Stuart..

From the summit we retraced our steps back towards the woods.

We considered heading back via the shore of Loch Glow reservoir but this was described as a rough track in walkhighlands.

Instead we descended part way and took the forestry track towards Kirkhill Common to eventually rejoin the minor road and back to our parked cars.

Jan and Graham led the (slightly longer than expected) drive to the Saline Shaw Farm Shop & Cafe where we soon had a table for an excellent lunch.

It has been decided to drop any plans for Ben Ledi for a while!
