Lindores Loch

27 November 2024
Despite several late call-offs we had a good turnout of 10 walkers (Sarah, Pamela, Pam, Isabel, Karen, Denise, Stuart, Alastair, Mike and Willie) who met at Collesie Victory Hall, in deepest Howe of Fife on a beautiful sunny morning.
Mike was our walk leader, having had a clear out of his study and found a paper copy of the walk – and what a find it was.
We headed up the public path to Grange of Lindores, past the old Station House and a steady climb to overlook the railway and burn. A narrow tarmac road took us past the Goldenloch Fishery, where many anglers were out in boats on a beautiful morning.
A further gentle climb took us to Berryhill Farm and then to Abdie House (home of the Turcan family) and the ancient Abdie Old Parish Kirk (dating back to 1242)
We then had a short walk on the A913 road into the hamlet of Lindores and had lunch by the loch.
We had a lovely walk up through the trees and then the steepest climb of the day high above Cairney hill.
Sarah and Cosmo decided to head off to ‘bag’ a Marylin and take a different route back to Collesie. A gentle descent though a sheep field then we followed a path to Braeside, where we rejoined the starting route back to Collesie. At the car park, the in-vogue car for Marauders appears to be a Volvo V40, especially in a fetching metallic grey finish.
Denise and Mike had to head home early, while the remainder of us headed to the Pillars of Hercules (grand title for a café / shop) where we met Jan and Graham. The café did not disappoint, with an excellent choice of cakes and coffee/tea to round off a superb day in “The Kingdom of Fife”.
See you on 18th or 19th December in Edinburgh. Willie
