Peebles to Eddleston

Hi folks, as planned the walk from Peebles to Eddleston took place yesterday.

12 Marauders, plus a very well-behaved Megg the collie, set off from Peebles shortly after 10.30 am in drizzly, windy weather though we were hoping it would improve as the day went on.

Sadly it didn’t until late on, in fact at times it got worse, wetter and windier, until the final half an hour when the rain relented and the wind died down.

The route took us initially up a forest road, then via a gate into grassy fields with several ascents and descents. By about midday we reached another forest road where we stopped briefly to get our breath back after probably the steepest climb of the day, and a cup of coffee for some of us. Thereafter the route proved much easier, one minor ascent then a long downhill stretch to pick up a farm track that led us all the way into Eddleston and the Horseshoe Inn.

We arrived somewhat damp and a little muddy, but a warm welcome from the inn staff and a pre-meal drink soon cheered us up. The meal was excellent, the Horseshoe do a fixed price, 2 or 3 course light lunch Monday to Friday, which really hit the spot.

Six Marauders plus Megg then got the X62 bus back to Edinburgh, and the other six got the bus back to Peebles and our waiting cars.
